    FILM DESCRIPTION:
The true-life story of a coach who tries to teach his players that there's more to life than basketball is brought to the screen in this sports drama. Ken Carter (Samuel L. Jackson) was once a star player on the Richmond High School basketball team in Richmond, CA, and years later, after establishing himself in publishing and marketing, he returns to the school and to the team as the new basketball coach. Carter quickly sees that his work is cut out for him -- the team is having an awful season, and their fights off the court are more decisive than their play on the court. While Carter wants to make the Richmond cagers into a winning team, he also wants a lot more -- to teach the boys to respect themselves and one another, and that they must excel in the classroom as well as in the gymnasium. Under Carter's guidance, the team turns their losing season around, with the state title a genuine possibility. However, when Carter learns that a number of his players have let their grade point averages slip below 2.3, as mandated in a contract he entered into with the students, he decides to lock the team out of the gym and send them into study hall until their marks improve. Carter's plan quickly becomes a subject of controversy among parents and team boosters, and their objections are soon picked up by the local news media, many of whom are not sympathetic to Carter's belief that his players must have goals beyond college ball or the NBA. Coach Carter also features Rob Brown and Rick Gonzalez as members of the team, and R&B diva Ashanti in her film debut as the girlfriend of one of Carter's players.

    1. I had a band teacher who had a similar influence on me. To hold my head high, have confidence, work hard to support that confidence. Put me in a leadership position and held me accountable. I felt like I learned a lot from him.

He ended up hooking up with one of my classmates and losing his job though

    2. At the beginning of the movie they lost to st francis during preseason and they were all fighting with each other and at the end they lost to st francis in a state championship game and they ended up coming together as a team. I love this movie

    3. Love the fact they could rise above a mere lose & see just how far they came as a team! Winning isn't everything, it's how far you've come not only as a team, but as an individual within said team

    4. Movies like this that have so much heart. It placed it's characters through life altering sercumstances where they must overcome real life challenges and adversities. It saddens me that movies in 2019, wash away oportunities for charcater development, and relatability with dumb quips! Which serves no purpose other than to promote lazy writing! Yet achieve better ratings than this movie.

    5. Without question the most underrated movie of all time. A heartwarming story of a coach who gave a a group of troubled young men not only a great youth but a future too. Very well acted too, Samuel l Jackson was amazing.

    6. This movie is awesome, people tend to remember the beginning and the ending. This ending was so realistic and inspirational. We need more movies like this.🙏

    7. Kenyon was a leader throughout the movie. This scene was the first time that Carter acknowledges that leadership by referring to him to answer the question.
