12 Hilarious Medieval Memes By Quarantined Board Game Developers

Hiatus Games is a tiny board game studio from Ukraine with big ideas. They’ve just successfully crowdfunded their first project, Deus Lo Vult. It’s a medieval board game of rampage, betrayal and agony, and it has over 300 original gilded and foiled miniatures. They were drawn by a professional art restorer and icon painter as a tribute to medieval illuminations from the Grandes Chroniques de France, and they’re absolutely awesome.

Deus Lo Vult should’ve started its way to its backers all over the world, however, the pandemic had other plans.

“Our game shipping was greatly delayed due to quarantine in China, and then the quarantine and lockdown came everywhere,” Mike Badelin, founder, producer, and game designer at Hiatus Games told Bored Panda. “We too are grounded at our homes and our game is stuck for an indefinite time in Shanghai, and it has made our Kickstarter and Facebook communities very sad.”

So, to keep themselves busy and their fans entertained during these uncertain times, Badelin and two artists at the studio, Alex Komyakhov and Mykhailo Skop, started creating medieval memes. “We have the most amazing backers, who supported us through the darkest of times and we’re trying to do what little we can: to cheer them up with some silly pictures. It worked, and people found it amusing.”
